Straits Times Run 2013

When I was still staying at Sengkang, there wasn't any race held at Sengkang/Punggol. This year, we had Straits Time Run 2013 at Punggol Waterway! One of the perks for joining this race got to be the tickets to the Sea Aquarium at Sentosa and the goodie bag is quite good too.

Jianhui and I took a cab down for the race and it was pitch dark when we were there. There weren't any toilets at the Baggage Deposit and so we had to go to the bus interchange to pee before our race. We waited for Alan and Sis till 7.05am when our race supposed to start at 6.45am. We didn't see them and so we started to walk to the starting point first. We had to squeeze through the 10km runners to the front to start the race.

As we were the last few of the 15km race, we ran quite fast. In the end, we ran 10km in 1h04min which was definitely my personal best. However, after the 10km, it was the trail run. I find it so difficult to run and it's such a waste of effort. In the end, we started to walk quite a bit. Ops.

Towards the last few km, I saw my sister and Alan. =p I wanted to dash but not much energy left. I saved my last bit of energy for the last 400m dash, but in the end, the finishing line was just ahead and I was like "Huh? We had completed the race?". Nevertheless, I was happy to complete my 15km race after resting for so long.

While walking to the water point, we saw Ailing! She really came down to support us with her cute foldable bike! Haha. It's so sweet of her!

It's disappointing that we didn't get the medals at the finishing line and the worst thing is, the queue for goodie bag/medal is FREAKING long. No way am I going to queue under the hot sun for the goodie bag. We decided to go for breakfast before getting the goodie bag.

And so, Jianhui and I got to go back to the baggage deposit to get our bags. And you know, it's a BIG round from the ending point to the baggage deposit. We got to walk at least 1km to the baggage deposit. =( Luckily, there wasn't any queue at the baggage deposit.

Alan came to pick us up and we decided to go Jalan Kayu for prata. In the end, it turned out to be a bad idea as there were a lot of blue runners there! We waited for so long and nobody wanted to take our order. And so, we went to the prata shop further down. It's much faster but you won't believe it, we spent $34+ on prata for breakfast?! This is broad daylight robbery totally. Besides, I don't find the prata extremely fantastic.

After breakfast, we went back to get our goodie bags and medals. There wasn't any queue at all! We got it settled in 1 minute?! Cool!

By the time, we collected the goodie bags, it was already 12! I can't imagine I had wasted the whole morning at Punggol for a 15km race. Gosh.

We were so tired that we wanted to take cab home but the bus came before we could take any cab and so we took the bus home.

So glad to be back home! I just want to relax the whole day now!

His Comeback Race - Tri Factor Triathlon

After missing in action for quite some time, Jianhui is back in action! His first triathlon this year since last year's race! With the cancellation of Aviva Half Ironman in Singapore, there is not much triathlon for him to participate. And so, he had signed up for Tri Factor Triathlon!

Early in the morning, we left the house to take cab. After last week's bad experience of not able to get a cab, we were kinda worried that we won't be able to get a cab. Luckily, we were lucky today! We managed to get a cab after waiting for a while!

The traffic was smooth and so we reached East Coast Park when it was still pitch dark! Jianhui went for body marking then he went to check in Che Che. Despite being MIA for a while, Jianhui looks prepared and all ready for race! And I am all excited for him!

At 7.45am, the first wave flagged off! It's time to race! The water was choppy and looked like it wasn't too favourable for the swimmers. At this time, Jianyun came and I helped him to take care of his bag. It's Jianyun's first triathlon so he was very excited and nervous.

It was a relief to see him coming up from the sea when he completed the swim! Swimming is not his forte so I'm very happy to see that he had challenged to himself to complete the swim once again!

It's cycling next! I managed to choose a good place to see him cycling past me. =p I managed to see him cycling past me 6 times! I enjoy watching the participants cycling past me. There were many different kinds of bikes - Pro, folding and even mountain bikes! Oh ya! I even got to see Jianyun too!

Looking good!

Then it's 10km run! I found a spot near the water ski park and waited for him to run past him. He's quite on track for running.

Finally, he completed his first triathlon in 2013! Yeah!! =p

He went to collect Che Che and his stuff then we waited at the finishing line for Jianyun. Around 12plus, we saw Jianyun at the finishing line! Glad that he had completed his first triathlon. Jianyun is quite amazing that he would sign up for triathlon even when he tried cycling on his brother's bike once!

Looking good with their bikes!

All in all, it was a happy Sunday!

Happy Holidays!

It was a long weekend for all of us as Hari Raya Puasa falls on 8 August 2013, just a day before our National Day. Everybody was in high spirits as it's really rare that we got to enjoy 4 days of long weekend (other than Chinese New Year).

On 8 August 2013, we were having a gathering for the programmers at our place and so we were busy cleaning up our house. It was totally a massive cleaning up session - We totally wiped every thing we can see in the house and it was a great achievement to see our house to be so clean.

They came around 4 plus to 5 plus. We started to eat snacks while waiting for Sarpino Pizza and KFC. We had specially ordered KFC for Liewen. Haha. We were very full from dinner and we even ate Apple Studel bought by Vivien. After dinner, we played the Playstation Liewen had brought from his house. It was fun playing the Sports Champion. They left about 9 plus.

As for 9 August 2013, we were activated by my dad to help to move furniture from my brother's house to Sengkang. Early in the morning, my dad fetched us to La Casa and we started to move the furniture. I only managed to carry those light stuff like cushions, etc. Alan, Ah Seng, Jianhui and Pang helped a lot to carry all the heavy items.

By the time we reached Sengkang, it was time for me to go office for system testing. We did a major upgrade of our system over the long weekend and so we had to go back for the testing. It was a 5 minutes affair. After the testing, Adeline, Ailing and I went for Kopi session at Yakun.

I walked around while waiting for Jianhui to come to town. As both of us were really tired, we didn't want to walk much. We decided to watch movie - Smurfs 2. It was a cute movie, but unfortunately not as good as the first one. Nevertheless, I still like Smurfs, especially Papa Smurf and Clumsy (cos he is so me).

After movie, we ended our day with a good dinner at Ichiban - our favourite Japanese restaurant.

2 days of public holidays had zoomed past just like that. So fast, it's Saturday again. We were too tired to do any sports and so we decided to go Bukit Batok West for breakfast. We ate the not-so-nice-but-healthy prata and the Hokkien Mee. Hokkien Mee was not bad, very watery - the style which I like it. After our breakfast cum lunch, we went back home to rest. I even took a nap! It was such a nice nap!

After nap, I was all ready to go out. We decided to head to ECP! It was drizzling a bit, we didn't care. We rented a bike and cycled together. I really miss cycling at ECP with Jianhui. So, though it was a short cycling session, I was happy.

I had a strong craving for korean food for weeks and I finally got to eat my favourite Ban Fan from the korean stall at the food court at Concorde Hotel. It was totally so yummy! The best korean food in Singapore - value for money too!

Then, we went to Orchard Central Mall to collect the race packs for Straits Times Run. The good thing about this run is, there's free tickets to the Sea Aquarium! How cool this is! =p Looking forward to a good race at Punggol Waterway - my home ground! We went home early to prepare for the race tomorrow.

I could have ended my long weekend with a good race (Adidas King of the Road 2013) on Sunday. Unfortunately, all the participants are ready, except the weather. It was raining non-stop since 5 plus and it rained all the way till 8 plus. It was raining non stop and it was so difficult to get a cab. At first, I thought that I could have at least ran the 10km run. Due to the bad weather, the organizers had no choice but to cancel the race.We got notification that the race was cancelled and so we went for McD's breakfast.

I was totally very disappointed that the race was cancelled due to bad weather. I have not been racing since my last race in April. I miss the adrenaline, excitement and sense of achievement after each race. Anyway, though I didn't race today, I am very thankful of my supporter, Jianhui. Normal supporters would have discouraged me from waking up for the race since it was raining. But, he was very supportive. He woke up so early (even much earlier than me) and kept on thinking of ways to go for the race. His passion for sports is admirable. I feel guilty that I was tempted not to wake up for the race (as the weather is too nice to sleep in). Thanks Jianhui! =p

Lastly, happy 9 months anniversary to Jianhui and me! I am happy to have you and I believe we will have many many happy years together!

NDP Preview 2013

Once again, I did not manage to get the NDP tickets. I had tried for years and every year, I would be disappointed. Fortunately, my lucky sis had managed to get 4 tickets this year! And I was able to go as my mum got NDP dinner on that day! Yeah! Papa Alan also bought a nice Team Singapore jersey for us to wear for the NDP preview! It's also Gwyneth's first NDP!

 photo 225206_10151838880473628_1346639383_n_zps238da35e.jpg

I've always enjoyed myself at NDP. It's the time when I feel that I am proud to be Singaporean as I sing along to our favourite NDP songs like Home, Count on me Singapore and Stand up for Singapore, etc. And of course, the best moment got to be the time when everybody sings along to National Anthem and recite The Pledge. That makes us Singaporean.

Singapore is my home. I just hope that we can stay as the Singapore I know 10 years ago - Not so crowded with the real Singaporeans.

One People, One Nation, One Singapore.
