4D3N trip to Kota Kinabalu for Borneo International Marathon 2014
Last weekend, Jianhui and i went to Kota Kinabalu again! And this time round, we are not going to climb Mount KK but to run Borneo International Marathon 2014! It's going to my first overseas half marathon! Haha.
On Friday, we took an evening flight via AirAsia to Kota Kinabalu. We were feeling quite hungry, so we ordered cup noodles and peanuts for snacks on AirAsia. In about 2 hours plus, we reached Kota Kinabalu and we took a cab to Le Meridien Hotel. It costs us RM15 per person for the cab ride. Given that it's only a short 15 minutes ride from the airport to Le Meridien (city), it's not that cheap after all.
I would say Le Meridien Hotel is a good hotel, definitely better than Shangri-la Putrajaya we had stayed recently. True enough, it was so cosy and nice that we had good sleep in the room. It's definitely the 2nd best hotel after Hyatt in the city. Come to think of it, Jianhui and I had been traveling to Malaysia quite often this year! Haha.
Then, we went out to look for food. After walking for a while, we came upon this Upperstar Restaurant! We ordered chicken wings, beef steak and pizza! And surprisingly, the food was quite nice. =p It was a satisfying dinner/supper. After such a satisfying meal, we went back to our hotel to rest!
On Saturday, after having breakfast at Circle at the first level of the hotel, we went to the market opposite our hotel to buy souvenirs. Weather was really hot and sunny that we walked for a while and we were already perspiring and can't wait to go to an air con place. We took some photos along our way to Suria Shopping Centre.
Happy to be in the air conditioned place! This shopping centre is like our Singapore shopping centres with many familiar brands like Watson, Mango, Crabtree& Evelyn and so on. We went all the way to level 6 to collect our race packs!
We walked around the shopping centre before we got to walk under the sun to go back to our hotel. On our way back, we walked past a chicken rice stall and so we decided to eat the chicken rice. It's not bad. =p Then, it's time to spend time in our cosy room!
It's the eve of our race so we couldn't go for any day tour or what. So, it's basically rest and relax for us today. For carbo loading, we went back to Suria Shopping Centre for Sushi Tei. However, the golden roll was totally a disappointment. This explains why the price is much lower as compared to Singapore?
Posing with my not-so-big-and-not-so-fantastic Golden Roll
After dinner, it's sunset and we had a stroll back together. =p
We got to rest early as we got to wake up at 2am on Sunday! The shuttle bus would be picking us up at 3.10am at Hyatt Hotel.
We tried to sleep early but failed miserably because of Man Utd again. And to our disappointment, they lost again. Sigh. After the match, we could finally catch some sleep.
When I woke up at 2+, I felt like a zombie. Super lack of sleep and feeling so stoned. We walked to Hyatt and waited for a while before bus came to fetch us. And so, we were at the stadium since 3.25am, stoning while waiting for our race to start at 5am. ''>_<
Finally, the race started at 5am. The moment I started running, i got a feeling it's not a good day for race. I feel so tired that my heart feels tight with slight pain. The route was quite okay until we reached the University. It's totally like NTU! Slope, slope, slope and more slope. It was hard to run up the slope. Luckily Jianhui was around to give me a push. =p When I completed the first 10.5km, I was feeling real tired. It was really challenging to finish the remaining 10.5km. And it's strange that it's only 6-7am, but the sun had already came out to work. Shinning so brightly high up in the sky... Hot Hot Hot!
When we crossed the finishing line, I was really happy! Coz the weather was really hot and I just can't wait to finish the race! Happy to drink the cold 100 plus at the finishing line!
While I was cooling down, Jianhui found out that there was a shuttle bus to send us back to hotel! Yeah! We don't have to walk a few km out to catch a cab! Save money, save time and save effort! Thanks to my observant and smart husband. And so, we were back in hotel around 8am+.
We could only take photo inside the hotel room as we didnt bring our camera or hp out for the race.
We were in time to have breakfast at the hotel after our shower. Haha. After breakfast, then it's time to rest, rest and rest. I didn't really sleep well though as I guess I am not just not used to sleep in the morning. haha.
As we were too lazy to walk any further, we went to the wang jiao cafe for lunch. We had the best plum-lime juice at this place. =p We also had McD's as snacks so that Jianhui would have met his KPI of going to every McD's in the world.
We had KFC for dinner. Hmm... I guess I can conclude eastern Malaysia's KFC not as nice as western Malaysia's. Hahaha. After KFC, we also had Bak Kut Teh. It tasted like herbal soup so I guess I prefer Singapore's BKT. We were feeling so full after such heavy dinner haha.
Then, we went to search the bar with live bank that Jianhui came 5 years ago. Found the bar but the live band haven't started. He had a drink before we went back hotel to rest.
The bar!
All in all, it was a short and relaxing trip. Both Jianhui and I had been feeling very stressed at work, so this trip was definitely a good trip for us to relax and rest. =p
Good bye Kota Kinabalu. We'll be back again!
(I hope that I can still come back here again to conquer Mount KK!)

BBCSC's Offsite 2014 @ Montigo Resorts
Last weekend, my department went Montigo for our offsite!
We had to meet at 7am at Tanah Merah which was super early for us who stayed in the west side. Thanks goodness, Jenny Leong's husband gave us a ride!
When all of us reached and had marked attendance, we all went in to wait for our ferry. It was a short ferry ride, probably about 40 minutes only! Tze Peng, Ann and I were sitting together and we were happily chit chatting on our way to Batam.
The moment we reached there, we took the shuttle bus to the ball room. There were light snacks for us to fill our stomach. I wasn't too hungry as Chay Yoon mummy had bought McD's for me. ;)
And so, the morning presentation started. It was a long presentation which lasted till lunch time. And we had to carry on even after lunch.
Eating our lunch!
I was happy that I was one of the Horizons Award winners in recognition of my contributions towards change initiatives and achievement of OCBC New Horizons goals. =p
At around 3 plus, we could finally go to our villa! Ann, Jenny, Sabrina and I stayed together in Villa 50!
Posing with the master bedroom! The bed is so comfortable and big!
Then, we went swimming in our private villa pool!
Happy 50-ers!
Around 4 plus, we had to go Sand pit for teambuilding games. We played Dodge ball and Soak it up. For Soak it up, it's damn disgusting that we had to drink the unknown-with weird taste-dirty water to gather as much water as possible. Yucks!
Then, it's finally time to relax! We all washed up and went for the BBQ dinner!
Dinner was not bad, especially the BBQ sotongs and prawns.
Celebrating BBCSC's 14th Birthday!
After dinner, we went back to our room while the rest stayed back to continue drinking. We wanna enjoy our room!
Ann, Sabrina and Jenny went swimming. But, I was so tired that I went to bathe and relaxed in the room. It had been a long day since 5am in the morning.
I was so tired by the time we went to sleep at 1am+.
In the morning, we packed our luggage and went for our breakfast. Breakfast was good with lots of choices of food. I guess they had more variety compared to the other time I came with my sister they all.
We had our breakfast then we went back our villa to check out. We're going back!
By 11am, we were at the terminal, waiting for our ferry to go back Singapore!
All in all, it was a great offsite! =p
