Goodbye ah nei

My ah nei had passed on peacefully in the hospital at 1.46am on 20 September 2014 at the golden age of 96 years old.

We kinda expected it but it came way too soon. She was hospitalized before we went for our Taiwan trip. Ah Seng took care of her patiently when we were away.

On Tuesday, she could still recognize me as "Min Min" with a nod. On Thursday, she was kinda in coma as she kept on sleeping. As for Friday, doctor advised that her body was not reacting to the medicine. They would be removing all the needles and medicine and would just give her the breathing mask to make her as comfortable as possible. I rushed down to hospital around 5pm+. At this point of time, she was totally in coma as she had no reaction at all despite that I was "throwing" her hands up and down. Her hands were all blue black but she has normal body temperature.

We went back home while Ana stayed behind with her. Apparently, hospital called my dad at around 1.36am. However, both Jianhui and my phones were in silent mode and so we didn't hear it. :( By the time I woke up, it was already 6.28am. Ah nei had already left us at 1.46am.

Ah nei has been staying with me since I was born. Even when I got married, we would be sleeping in the same room every Sunday night. She is a naggy but very caring grandmother. Before her health got worse, she was still making breakfast and preparing tea for me every morning before i go to work at the age of 90+ years old. She would always ask if I have taken my meals and on days in which I went to visit her, she would tell me not to go home too late. She is our official key holder as she would always ensure that there are 2 pairs of keys hanging at the door. If a bunch of keys are missing, she is definitely the first person to send us searching for the missing keys. And yes, she would always want the door to be locked at all times. If the door is not locked anytime of the door, be prepared that she would send you checking every now and then.

She was a traditional mother in law. She would expect my mother to wash all clothes early in the morning to hang outside and to prepare lunch/dinner before a certain period of time. I guess my mum had quite a "hard time" as her daughter in law.

When her health got worse that she could no longer walk, my dad would bathe her diligently every day and my mother would help out. My mother would get ready the food for her to eat. She would always tell us she wanted to go toilet to shit. Most of the time, it would be false alarm. When she was hospitalized for the last time, she was too weak to talk or say anything. A sign that she was getting weaker and weaker.

Happy moments with ah nei. 96 golden years.

Ah nei, you had lived a good long 96 years. You will be deeply missed by all of us. I love you ah nei.

Family Trip to Taiwan 11 September to 15 September 2014

For this year, my family and I went to Taiwan to celebrate my sis' birthday! :) I'm happy to have my parents joining us for the trip!

Day 1
My sis has arranged for the Mercedes Limousine cab to send me to airport from Bukit Panjang and so I don't have to waste money to take cab. =p Our flight is at 11.55am. We had breakfast at Yakun before we entered the departure gate.

Off we go to Taiwan!

When we reached Taiwan, it was already around 5plus. We went to check out how to take public transport to city. We took bus to Taipei Train station. From there, we could take MRT to Ximending. It was peak hour, so it was quite jam to go to Taipei Train station. By the time we reached Taipei Train station, it was 7pm+. Immediately, we took train to Ximending and walked to our hotel - ECFA Wan Nian. The hotel is part of the shopping centre, Wan Nian. I would say the room is decent and most importantly, I get to sleep on a king size bed! Shiok.

After checking in, we went downstairs for dinner. Basically, we started to feast and went to different shops to eat different food - Fried rice, dumplings, fried egg oysters, tian bu la and desserts. We went to Ximending to shop and it's time for Ah Chung Mian Xian. Eat, eat and eat. In Taiwan, the fungi are very popular and so they are selling the soft toys. Sis and I bought our favourite fungi. Haha.

We walked until 11plus then we were getting tired and so we went back to rest.

Day 2
As usual, my parents woke up early in the morning. They woke me up about 7am and so after washing up, I went to breakfast with them. There wasn't much stuff to eat for breakfast and so I had simple breakfast - saving my stomach for better food.

When my sis they all woke up and were ready to go out, we decided to go to Taipei 101. I have been to Taiwan so many times, but I have not gone up to Taipei 101. And so, today is my first time going up Taipei 101. First time looking at Taipei from Taipei 101. I guess the night scenery will be beautiful with the lights.

After this, we took a cab to Jay Chou's Mr J's restaurant. I'm so in love with the place. The theme of the restaurant is my favourite movie, The Secret. It's so nice to eat while listening to Jay Chou's songs. Haha. The food is good too! I love my dad's prawn spaghetti.

Then it's time for shopping! Once again, we took a cab to Wufenpu. This time round, I find that the clothes were not that cheap anymore and so I didn't buy much. And why is it that everytime i go wufenpu, it will always rain? Ah!

We bought my favourite fried chicken and fried mushrooms to eat. It was really good! Yummy! Gwyneth loves the fried chicken like me. Haha. Around 4pm+, we took a cab back to hotel with our shopping loot.

We rested in the hotel before we went out to meet Wanlin. Along the way, we walked past the shop that do customization of name stickers! We did many name stickers! We did so many until we were late to meet Wanlin. Haha.

She brought us to a steamboat restaurant at Zhong Hua Dun Hua. It was really great to meet up with this cheerful, jovial and happy Wanlin. She simply brightens up all our mood! We ate really a lot of food that we were so full.

After dinner, we went to Cheng Pin so my dad can buy his music score finally. We also bought some cute bookmarks outside Cheng Pin before we went back to our hotel. :)

Day 3
Early in the morning, we checked out from ECFA at 6am. We're going to Cingjing. Thanks to Wanlin for helping us to buy the tickets to take the bus to Cingjing. It's really good to have Taiwanese as friend! We took cab to Taipei train station. Apparently, we were really early as we were already there at 6.15am when the bus would only leave at 7am.

So, we set off at 7am! At each toilet point, it was a scary experience for me as all the tourists would rush to toilets. Super rowdy. ''>_<

Around 11am+, we finally reached Cingjing! It was a short 350m walk to our accommodation. However, it's downslope and we had to walk on the road, so it wasn't that easy to walk to our accommodation with our luggage.

Relaxing place to have high tea and breakfast

 photo TaiwanTrip11Sept-15Sept2014150_zps15cffdb2.jpg

We couldn't check in yet, so we decided to go for lunch at a restaurant recommended by the owner. Though the place wasn't that far, but it was up slope all the way under the sun. My parents kept on complaining. Haha. Lunch wasn't to my taste so I'm just happy to eat it to fill up my stomach.

After lunch, the owner came to send us to the farm. We bought the tickets and were excited to watch the sheep show.

 photo TaiwanTrip11Sept-15Sept2014118_zps8c1608d6.jpg

However, it started to rain towards the later part of the show and so we had to leave the place in a rush to find shelter. Anyway, I wasn't really enjoying the show as I feel that they are torturing the sheep.

We were kinda lucky to get a cab to send us all back to Europe Villa. And now, we can finally check in! The room is really nice and cosy! And I got to sleep on queen size bed again! Shiok!

High tea was provided so we had high tea. At the same time, we also celebrate sis' birthday with Amo cheese cake. The cheese cake is damn good!

 photo TaiwanTrip11Sept-15Sept2014170_zps6dcf8748.jpg

As for dinner, we went to this Salted Chicken Restaurant as they would fetch us to the restaurant and back to our villa. Surprisingly, dinner was really good. I love the chicken!

 photo TaiwanTrip11Sept-15Sept2014181_zpsecb8a6e8.jpg

I really had a good dinner and now it's time to go back to rest!

Day 4
It was a relaxing morning. My parents and I had breakfast together. Breakfast is simple but good. One of the best breakfast I had in Taiwan. We do not have much itinerary so we had a relaxing morning at Europe Villa before we checked out.

The owner was really nice to bring us send us to Carton King, the place that Papa Alan has been wanting to go. Everything in  the restaurant is made of cardboard - chairs, tables, decorations and even drinks! I ordered chicken (again) and I like it!

 photo TaiwanTrip11Sept-15Sept2014251_zps8a4ff5e4.jpg

After such a satisfying lunch, we went to collect our luggage from Information Counter to take the bus at 12.50pm. It was a long journey back as traffic is bad.

It was already 6pm+ when we reached Taipei train station. Sis and I rushed to buy pineapple tarts and mochi, highly recommended by Wanlin.

Then we took cab to Spring Resort at Beitou! We checked in quickly so that the taxi driver could send us to Shilin! Yeah! I can eat my favourite fried chicken!
And yes, the first thing that I did when I reached shilin was to buy fried chicken! Yummy!

 photo TaiwanTrip11Sept-15Sept2014258_zps4def411d.jpg

We had zhu char at one of the shops besides this famous fried chicken. As usual, we had a good dinner with beer too! Haha.

We shopped around until we were too tired then we took a cab back to Spring Resort. Time to enjoy our hot spring inside the room!

Day 5
As usual, my parents and I had breakfast together before my sis they all woke up. When my sis they all came down, my parents went back to room.

We rested a while before we went for outdoor hot springs. Like what Wanlin said, we are really crazy to go hot springs in summer. Haha. But, I am still happy to soak myself in hot springs rather than those cold ones. I simply can't stand cold springs!

By the time we washed out and packed our luggage, it's time to check out. So, we checked out before we took the shuttle bus out for lunch. We had lunch at this chinese restaurant. The food was not bad but service sux. We also bought bubble tea while waiting for the shuttle bus to fetch us back to Spring Resort.

 photo TaiwanTrip11Sept-15Sept2014267_zpsdbdc319e.jpg

We relaxed at the lobby while waiting for the taxi uncle to send us to airport. He was early and so we reached airport much earlier than we expected. I guess it's good to be early rather than late!

We are on our way back home! All in all, it was a good trip with my family. It was their first time to Taiwan so I hope they've enjoyed as much as us. :)
