Guan, USA - 7 April to 11 April 2017
We are finally going on holiday after so long! Yeah! We're going to Guam. To be frank, I didn't really know about this place until Jianhui told me that he wanted to go Guam.
7 April to 8 April 2017
As usual, we weren't ready for the trip until a few days before we are flying off. We were still booking our last 2 nights' accommodation 2 days ago before our flight and I finally managed to change USD/Peso on Thursday. =p
In the morning, we started to pack for our trip. After our breakfast, we even went to NTUC to get last minute items like tidbits, sunblock, and toiletries. Haha. Basically, we were really busy packing in the morning.
My dad happened to be at CCK and he came over to send us to the airport! Yeah! When we reached the airport, there was a long queue at the counter! We decided to do online check in and this saved us a bit of time so that we could have lunch at Burger King.
This is my first time taking Philippines Airline and I was really surprised that there wasn't any in flight entertainment! Luckily, it was going to be a 3 hours+ flight to Manila. As usual, I wasn't interested in the flight meals so I could only eat the bread. Even the ice-cream is some weird sea salt caramel. =(
We touched down Manila Airport Terminal 2. It was quite a smooth and fast process to transit at Manila airport.
Can you believe it? There are only 2 toilets (each with 3 cubicles) at Terminal 2? As a result, there was a long queue at the toilets. To make things worse, one cubicle's flush was spoilt and there was no water at the taps! ''>_<
While waiting, we bought hotdog buns to eat. The hotdog buns were not as nice as the ones we had on Bintan's ferry. Haha.
One thing about Manila Airport was, your boarding gate kept on changing. Our gate changed from 2 to 6 and finally to 3. So, you got to be very alert and constantly making a point to check the gate if not you might just missed your flight.
We were so glad when we finally boarded the plane as we were so sick of Terminal 2. It was an empty flight so we got 3 seats and I could lie down to sleep for a while. By now, it was late at night 10pm so I didn't have much appetite to eat also.
When I woke up at 1.20am (Guam timing is 3.20am, 2 hours ahead of us), it was about time to reach Guam. We cleared the customs relatively quite smooth. Customs officer was quite nice to us despite us not filling up an extra form.
After getting our luggage, we went to Avis to get our car. It's Nissan Sentra. It was very dark but my international driver, Jianhui managed to bring us to Pacific Star Resort and Spa, about 3km away from the airport.
As what we expected, Pacific Star Resort and Spa is an old school resort. Haha. After such a tiring day, we were just too happy to have a place to sleep.
After washing up, we slept like a pig.
We were really blessed to see double rainbow when we woke up in the morning! Such a beautiful sight!
We went to the nearby McD's for breakfast. McD's never disappoints as usual. However, we were given Iced tea instead of hot black tea. Do they drink Iced tea in the morning?
After breakfast, we went to Pacific Island Club to collect race pack. The expo was really happening!
Hafa Adai (pronounced as "Half a day") is Hello in Chamorro which is like Aloha
Being the only 2 Singaporeans for the race event, we found our race packs at HK/China.
After collecting our race packs, we went back to hotel room to rest.
We had lunch at Jamaican Grill as there was a discount voucher from the race pack. Lunch was not too bad. After lunch, we went to K Mart to shop for water before we went back to hotel room to rest.
We were still feeling sleepy so we just kept on falling asleep on the bed. Haha.
Around 5pm, we decided to go out to recce the finishing line. We were surprised that the medals were left unattended at the finishing line. I guess, it's about integrity ya. Haha.
After taking the photos, we drove to En Japanese Restaurant for dinner. There weren't many people as it was still early. We had unagi roll and teppanyaki for dinner.
Then it's time to go back hotel to sleep! We slept about 9pm+
9 April 2017
Jianhui woke up about 2am for his 3am marathon. I was really tired so I didn't go to the starting point with him. I felt bad as normally I would go down with him no matter how tired I was. It felt like I didn't really sleep as I woke up every 2 hours.
Then when I woke up, I forced myself to eat a slice of bread before going out. The good thing about Pacific Star was, it was really very near to the ending point. And you could join in the fun as the running route was just outside the hotel.
There were many supporters along the way. While waiting for Jianhui, I was cheering for other runners.
Finally, I saw Jianhui come running in! So proud of him for completing his 2nd overseas marathon! Each finisher has a medal, beach mat (yeah! I have been wanting to get a beach mat!) and beach towel. You could also dip yourself at the beach after the race. There was a BBQ party but we didn't eat anything.
Happy runners!
Different sizes of medals!
We went back hotel to shower and rest. For once, we had quite a lot of time to rest after a race as most of the time, we got tor rush to check out.
We checked out around 12pm then we decided to go to No.1 restaurant in Guam, Pika's Cafe. However, there were a lot of people and we were too hungry. So, we went to McD's instead. haha.
Then we headed to the famous tourist attraction, Two Lovers' Point. We had drinks at Terraza which was a nice place with good view.
Then we drove to Westin Hotel. We wanted to stay at a better hotel for the next 2 nights, but it seems like Westin wasn't that new after all. Haha. At least the room was really spacious and it comes with ocean view. haha.
We researched on where to eat for dinner and we decided to go California's Pizza at Holiday Resort. The pizza and spaghetti was not too bad, but nothing spectacular. Then, it's time to go back our room to rest.
10 April 2017
We had a good sleep as we could sleep as late as we want. Haha.
Finally, we got to go to the beach! Yeah! The water was so clear that it was so tempting to go down to swim!
After swim, we went to Pika's Cafe for brunch. It was early so there weren't a lot of people. The pancakes were not to bad. =p It was a filling breakfast for sure.
Then, it's time for our little adventure. We would be driving southwards!
Our first destination is Capitol of Hagat-na -Basilica, Plaza de Espana and Latte Stone Park!
Cathedral
Latte Stone Park
Then we drove to Asan Bay Overlook.
From Asan Bay overlook, it is about 27km to Fort Soledad. Finally, we reached Fort Soledad!
We continued driving and we came across the natural ocean park at Inarajan.
Some people were swimming in this ocean pool, but Jianhui managed to take this beautiful photo without any people!
By now, we were really hungry. Luckily, we drove past Jeff's Pirate Cove where we could have our lunch.
After lunch, we drove on the highway up north back to our hotel. It had been a long day as we covered a lot of tourist attractions within half a day. Haha.
We rested a while in our hotel before we drove to Hagath-na park to catch sunset.
I must say it was an eventful day as we covered a lot of places of attraction in the tourist brochure. Haha.
We had dinner at Beachin Shrimps. Everything about prawns. I guessed the food was too fusion that I didn't really like it. =(
We went back to hotel to rest. We got to rest early as we got to wake up for early flight the next morning.
11 April 2017
It's time to go home. We woke up at 4am+ and checked out from the hotel. We bought our breakfast at 24hours McD's before driving to airport.
Just when we thought we could drop the car keys and go, we were told to pay USD75 for not topping up the fuel (we did top up the fuel to full tank but the meter can never go to full tank) and additional day charge (as we were like half an hour late?!!). This is so ridiculous. This shall remind us to dispute whenever we didn't get full fuel tank when we get our rented car. This kind of thing never happens with Thrifty. Only Avis will give us problems.
We did online check in so we skipped the long queue to check in our luggage. Security check was prompt and soon we could board the plane. It was an empty flight so I could lie down to sleep. Haha. We were hoping this flight will delay a little bit so that we could reduce our transit time from 6 hours to 5hours or even shorter. However, the flight was super on time.
We reached Manila airport Terminal 2 at about 9am+ and we had to wait till our boarding time at 2.30pm. You know how did we spent our 6 hours at the airport? Each hour, we will spend 15 minutes queuing for toilet, 15 minutes for food, 15 minutes waiting for the other to come back from toilet, 15 minutes playing phone and charging phone.
We were so relieved when we could finally board the plane. Seriously, boarding gates at Manila kept on changing until it gets very confusing for the passengers. We nearly missed our flight if we didn't ask the staff if we could board the plane. Haha.
Around 7pm+ we finally touched down Singapore. What a long day...
We were really tired by the time we reached home.
All in all, it was a good and relaxing trip. Thanks Jianhui for being my reliable international driver and tour guide. Very thankful to have you as my travelling mate. =p And thanks for introducing Guam to me. =p
