Lexuan’s first Overseas Trip (11 May 2018 to 13 May 2018)
11 May 2018
We are really excited as Lexuan is going overseas for the first time! Her very first overseas trip! Though it’s only to Bintan, I was very excited too as our last holiday was like June last year?! We wanted to bring her to Australia for her first overseas trip but then due to work, it didn’t happen. It’s okay as this Bintan trip will be good for us to prepare our future longer overseas trip!
I had been so busy at work that I can only start packing one day in advance. Instead of sleeping at 11pm as per normal, I was busy packing till midnight. Travelling with a baby means packing light for mummy as we need to cater more space for baby stuff which includes her pillow, bolster, lots of clothes, kettle, diapers, baby wipes, bottles, etc.
On the morning itself, we were still busy packing and figuring out what bags to bring. Ultimately, we went Bintan with 3 backpacks and 1 stroller. This means that when we board the ferry, papa has to carry 2 bags and 1 stroller as I will be carrying baby with 1 bag. I seriously wonder how Jianhui did it. Haha.
When we reached the ferry terminal, it was crowded and there was a Long queue as usual since many people were also heading to Bintan for Bintan triathlon. There were many bikes too! Lucky, the queue moved quite fast. Jianhui went to check in Che Che while I went to Killiney to feed Lexuan so that she won’t be hungry on board. Anyway, it’s really cool that once we check in Che Che, they will deliver the bike to Nirwana Gardens. It’s so convenient. That’s why we kinda enjoy going Bintan for triathlon.
Soon, it was boarding time. We didn’t really eat breakfast so we were waiting for the cafe on the ferry to start business. We want to eat our hotdog buns! We were so hungry that we bought 3! Hehe.
After a while, Lexuan fell asleep in my arms. Let’s hope when we travel on plane, she can fall asleep so easily soon. We really hope she can sleep more on flight so that her tired parents can at least rest for a while. Haha.
When we reached Bintan, we were among the last few to clear customs. We waited like super long. At least the good thing was, it was a short journey from ferry terminal to Nirwana Gardens and when we reached Nirwana Gardens, we could check in immediately. I was really happy we could finally leave our heavy bags in the room and we can finally relax.
After feeding Lexuan, we went for our lunch at Dino’s Cafe at 3pm+. The thing about Bintan is, there are not many options for food. We ordered Nachos and Pizza which was not very nice but expensive. Then Jianhui went to collect Che Che.
We can finally rest in the room for a while before dinner time. It’s also nap time for Lexuan. She was so excited that she didn’t get to sleep much.
For dinner, we had dinner at the Garden Restaurant. The fish & chips was not bad while the Mee Goreng was just too weird.
It had been a long day for us so we rested early.
12 May 2018
Since the race would be in the afternoon, this means that we could relax in the morning. We went for breakfast around 8am+. It’s international breakfast but nothing fantastic. I think the only thing worth eating is the waffles freshly made and probably the sunny side up. And I love porridge just for the very fact that I love any porridge. Haha. And I was so surprised to meet Damien (my MT mate whom I never see for over 10 years) who was here for Singapore triathlon too!
After breakfast, Jianhui went to check out the starting point while we went back to the room. When he’s back, I went for a short run to clock mileage for my Mother’s Day virtual run. I ran to and fro around our hotel and finally clocked 5km. Haha. It was a relaxing run but I perspired a lot. It’s so hot and humid.
We rested in the room until about 12pm+ then we went to the Garden Restaurant for lunch. We ordered burger and cheese fries. Bad mistake. We couldn’t finish the cheese fries as it’s more like cheese wedges. Then it’s about time to go back room to get ready for the race.
As we made our way to the starting point (which was very near to Nirwana Gardens), we were perspiring like mad. Why would anybody race in the afternoon? Haha. Lexuan must be feeling so hot in her pram as we had forgotten to bring her stroller fan. 😂
About 1.40pm, Jianhui went to the starting point. After he has started swimming, I was hiding under the shelter before he came out from the water. I couldn’t push the pram on the sand so I got to carry the pram and baby to the beach which was very shag. Thanks goodness we got to see Jianhui coming out from the water to transition area. I quickly pushed Lexuan to the bike starting point but I could only see Jianhui leaving with Che Che. Haha. My Husband was so fast at T1 that I missed him. Since he would be out for 40km, I pushed Lexuan back to the room. Lexuan must be knowing that her daddy was racing as she couldn’t sleep at all.
Just when we were getting ready to leave the room to support Jianhui for his run, it started raining. Lucky it rained before I stepped out of the room, if not I would be disaster for Lexuan and I to be in the rain. Anyway, the good thing about our room was, the run course was just outside our room. So we could see Jianhui running past us. So lexuan and I parked ourselves there to see the runners running by. And finally, Jianhui ran past us. So happy to see dear dear!
As for 2nd loop, both Lexuan and I fell asleep on the bed! Jianhui had to knock on the windows then I realised he was almost done with 2nd lap. Yeah! It’s still drizzling so we didn’t go to the finishing line. I was kinda disappointed coz I always feel that it’s a joy to be at the finishing line, witnessing your loved one completing the race.
He came back with Che Che and barang barang. Then he went to shower before we went for dinner at Dino’s cafe. Yeah! We can finally celebrate but kinda sad that I still cannot drink beer. Oh well. We had sandwiches, chicken wings and satay. The food was really expensive and not nice. I could have bought a lot a lot of nice hawker food at Bukit Timah Food Center with the same amount of money. After dinner, we went back room to rest.
A happy day!
13 May 2018
It’s Mother’s Day today and my first mother’s day! ❤️ Thanks Jianhui for sponsoring this trip as a gift for me! Hehe. Definitely a memorable Mother’s Day for me at Bintan with Jianhui and Lexuan.
We woke up early so we went for breakfast early as well. After breakfast, we went to the finishing line to take family photos. Haha. After that, it’s time to start packing to check out.
We checked out at 12pm and waited at the lobby for our bus to go to the ferry terminal. The timing was just nice as we queued to cross the customs once we reached the ferry terminal.
We can’t wait to board the ferry as we were starving and we wanted to eat our hotdog buns. Haha. The hotdog buns are so popular that we had to wait for quite long before we could get our buns. Nevertheless, I would say the hotdog buns are the best food on ferry and in Bintan. Haha.
When we reached Singapore, Lexuan was hungry and so we went to Killiney to feed her before we took cab home.
All in all, it was a great short trip and I really enjoyed myself with Jianhui and Lexuan. I am sure Lexuan enjoyed herself too as she was smiling a lot! So happy that she shit a lot too! We almost run out of diapers coz I only brought 18 diapers. It’s important to bring more diapers for our next holiday! Haha.
Happy 6 months old my little baby! Papa and mummy love you very much! Stay happy and healthy always!
Also, congratulations to myself for breastfeeding for 6 months! I really didn't know I would make it this far especially so when I had really little supply for the first 4 days. Good job Angie! Jia You!
Note: Need to bring lots and lots of diapers for the next overseas trip.
