MetaSprint Triathlon 2022

After being a supporter or triathlon or ironman races for many years, I finally tried doing my first short triathlon yesterday! Glad that I signed up for the discovery race (Swim 250m - Bike 12km - Run 2.5km) instead of the usual sprint distance as I didn’t really have time to train. Even for this short distance, I was really nervous and it doesn’t help that I was so tired after 5 days of hectic work days. And of course, thanks to my encouraging husband who assured me that I will be okay! He even helped me to cycle down my bike so that I don’t have to worry about my bike!

The moment I reached the race site, I was really excited. It’s like after so long, we can finally race without mask outdoors. Seeing all the happy athletes and supporters makes me realise how much I miss this! Race mode is on!

I was a bit lost as to what to do as this is my first triathlon. Thanks to my many years of being a supporter, I remember to bring all the things I needed for transition area and set up my transit area nicely! And so I am all ready for my first race! My strategy for the race is - “Survive the swim, enjoy the ride and run”!

I soaked myself in the sea for a while and tried to swim a bit. As what I have expected, the sea is dirty and I can’t really see. Haha. And then I’m all ready to start! We started on time at 10.40am with rolling start. I didn’t want to start the last as I am not a fast swimmer and I definitely don’t want to be the last. Haha.

And so I started my swim. It was choppy but manageable. In fact, I feel that the swim is much better than I expected. I swarm to the first orange buoy before aiming the red buoy and then finally back to the shore! There weren’t a lot of participants so I wasn’t being kicked by the competitive swimmers this time round.

So happy to survive the swim as I came up to the shore. I saw jianhui and Lexuan cheering for me and I ran quickly to the transit area.

I wear my socks and shoes, put on my helmet and sunglasses and so I am ready to go. As I was catching my breath, I started leisure cycling. Then it came to my mind of what Jianhui told me… I should be on race mode and I should put in effort to cycle. So I picked up my speed and was happy to see that my legs feel okay so far. And so I was happy to finish my first lap and I saw Jianhui + Lexuan too! With the first lap experience, I kinda know what to expect and so for the 2nd lap, I cycled even faster. I kinda enjoyed the ride as it is breezy and I got to cycle on the roads! Saw a few kids along the way and I think they are amazing! Got one kid even run with his bike with about 1km left.

After the bike, it’s running time! I thought I would be able to run fast but then I couldn’t find the strength to speed up at all. All I could do was trying hard not to stop. Hahaha. It was only 2.5km but I was running at 6.40mins/km pace. Anyway, So glad that I made it back to the finishing line in one piece!

I did it! My first triathlon and I was really very happy to complete this! Thanks to my husband for encouraging me and making sure I made it to the start point. As I was telling him, I probably would end up DNS if not for him who is so supportive and encouraging. So I guess, having a supportive better half is very important! I’m so blessed to have him!

It’s a short race but I glad that I made the first step. I have been wanting to do a triathlon myself and I finally did it. Another achievement unlocked! This is a good start and I am sure I will be back again!

52 to 54 months old (11 February to 11 May 2022)

The latest update of the current covid-19 situation is, we finally opened up! No limit to number of pax for gathering and we can almost travel to anywhere without quarantine or swab test! And it is no longer mandatory to wear masks outdoors though most people are still wearing masks outdoors. At least I can go playground with Lexuan without wearing mask!

1 March 2022 marks the day Lexuan has been in this school for 4 years! Amazing right? She has made many good friends in this school and I can see that she loves her teachers and classmates. Jennifer 老师 is a saviour as Lexuan started to speak more Chinese since she joined the school. Lexuan told me that she was tasked to be prefect in class with Kieran.

She was sick in early March and she will tell me she cannot go Ah Yi’s house over the weekend. It was quite “happening” in school as the school reported 2 kids and 3 Teachers down with covid-19 and so she was on HRN 4 March to 8 March. At 4+ years old, she received the most number of HRN in the family. Thankfully, she is safe so far.

She saw the game “Greedy grandma” from YouTube and wanted me to buy for her. I managed to get it from Amazon and when it came, she taught me how to play. Now, she is at the age that she can give instructions how to play a game.

She can also finally write her Chinese name after much practice at home. Though her strokes can still improve, I think it’s good enough! And she can write the date in Chinese too… 三月十一日！She wants me to tie her hair to go school and so I am practising now everyday!

She’s crazy over magic ink and has been bugging me to buy more and more! Magic ink is something that the paper will change colours once you colour it with magic ink pen. She had almost all the different designs now and still so happy whenever she has a new magic ink book! This book costs me a bomb as it is $10 per book!

Now, she has more sense of time. She will asks why am I home so late and Will video call me before I am home. She knows that when I go jumping class and will say mummy go exercise so that you won’t be fat fat?

We have been trying to make her quit pampers but to no success! Though she managed to sleep one night without pampers! This happens because I forgot to put on pampers for her. Haha. Actually, on most nights, her pampers are dry but she just doesn’t have the confidence to sleep without pampers.

She loves colour and drawing too! She can definitely draw better now and has concept of what she wanna draw. She has been learning cycling but still cannot cycle with 2 wheels. She almost can cycle for 2 seconds but as usual, she likes to jump off from her bike. We were thinking maybe we need to get a smaller bike for her.

She loves swimming and is so happy to swim at Ah Yi’s house. She likes to play the super Mario’s mini games too! My sis has 2 baby chinchillas, Violet and Dumpling and Lexuan loves to play with them too! I love the chinchillas too!

She picks up words from school very fast. For a period of time, she likes to say “very funny right” then she moves on to “aiyoyo”. She also says “我帮你啦”。It’s quite cute when she says this haha.

We will play animal games before we sleep. On one night, she actually told me they she knows that caterpillar will turn into pupa and pupa to butterfly. She is super scared of caterpillar though. Haha.

When I was home late one of the night, she helps me to get tissue and water and she told me that she is a good helper to mummy. Haha. My girl is really growing up.

She is a sensitive girl and will always tell me not to scold her. Even when I am not scolding her but just speaking a bit louder, she will say that I am scolding her. nowadays she will also tell me not to nag her. Every night after brushing teeth, I will remind her to go toilet. So one of these nights, she told me not to nag. She knows that she needs to go toilet without me nagging at her.

It’s my 5th Mother’s Day and she makes it a tough one for me. She was suddenly down with high fever and complaining that her legs got muscle ache. The whole night she was fussy and I couldn’t sleep at all. And I still got to go to work the next day.

Luckily she was all good the next day and she can go back school on tuesday.

It has been a fun 3 months to watch her growing up! Love you baby!
