My 8th SCSM and 10th Marathon
My last marathon was in 2019. And this year, we finally have our Singapore marathon back! As usual, we didn’t train much and to make things worse, my joints are in pain whenever I walk. I was excited and yet nervous about this marathon.
I was sick last weekend with sore throat and flu (tested negative) due to durians. So I tried to self-Medicate with cough syrup and Difflam. Luckily, it works and I feel much better on Thursday. Jianhui tried to tempt me with durians again on Friday. I controlled myself and only ate 3. So at least I can go my race without sore throat. Jianhui loves the XO durians but somehow I get sore throat quite easily after eating this.
We booked pan pacific hotel so that we don’t have to rush to the starting point on race day. But, they don’t have a room for us. After shopping for sunglasses and garmin watch, we still got to wait. We waited until late 4pm then we finally can check in. And the best part is, we got late check up until 5pm the next day! Hurray!
We had Song Fa for dinner and bought some snacks + drinks before we went back to our room to rest. We were so tired by now. We slept around 9pm. I was so tired that I had quite a good sleep. I dreamt that I was late for the race as I went back to room to find sunglasses but cannot find and it was raining.
We woke up around 3am, watched a bit of Argentina vs Australia match while eating breakfast. Jianhui made Nespresso coffee for us and we ate the bread we bought from four leaves. We made it to the starting line about 4.15am. And i happened to see Xin Er (thanks to Jianhui for spotting her) while entering the race village.
Never know I can predict things… in the end, it really rained at 4.30am this morning! The flag off was delayed and the runners rushed to find shelter. I was wet and feeling cold. Seriously, I think this is my first marathon in Singapore with rain! It’s always too hot in Singapore. Haha. I was worried that the race would be cancelled, but they went ahead with it. Luckily, we got to flag off at 5.30am. It was drizzling by now.
We started at a relatively slower pace today. And after waiting so long, we needed to go toilet again. In fact, we went toilet at least 4 times today! Haha. We completed our first 10km in 1 hr and 17 mins. The weather is quite cooling.
I was still feeling okay so far and so I could still run and walk. We finished half marathon in 3hrs. We know for sure that it would be a challenge to finish full marathon today within 6 hrs. Jianhui’s toe has blister and yet the plaster doesn’t work. So he ended up taking off his right sock and ran. At the aid station, they have high 5 gel which is very nice! Jianhui’s salt tablet is not too bad too! The water and isotonic drink are cold too! I just say the aid stations are 💯!
We entered ECP around 21km. I managed to catch Xin Er near the u turn point. She’s not too far behind from us. Don’t know how we did it. Some how we managed to complete the run in ECP by running and walking. The sun started to come out by now.
Knowing that we have less than 10km to go, we are highly motivated. Oh ya, our garmin watch is always 1km more than the official distance marker so we did more than 42.195km okay! But we had to go up the Sheares bridge which is not motivating at all. I even took a photo at 39km mark as I am 39 years old this year.
When we reaching the familiar 42km, I was feeling happy and relieved!! We did it! So happy to complete another full marathon and this time with Jianhui together! Thanks to him, today Marathon doesn’t seem that far!
After race, we can’t wait to go back to our hotel. But we had to Walk quite a bit via SG flyer to go back our hotel. To make things worse, the escalator is spoilt! Asking somebody who has just completed a full marathon to walk down stairs is a torture!
We had a shower in our room before we went for celebration lunch at Paulaner! By now, Xin er has completed her first full marathon too! Good job babe!
Now my whole body is aching. Knees are sore too. Just hope that I will feel better tomorrow! Can’t wait to sleep till tomorrow morning!
