Recap of SCSM 2025
Here we go again, the most important race of the year. And the thing is, I told myself I need to train for it every year and yet it didn’t happen again this year. In fact, I was so busy for the past 2 weeks at work that I even cut down running sessions. I seriously need to reflect how to make myself to be more disciplined to train.
Anyway, we tried to sleep at 8pm the previous night but as usual I couldn’t sleep until Lexuan fell asleep. So I slept about 10pm and woke up at 2am. So sleepy. We could get a cab quite fast and alighted somewhere near the flyer. For once, we are kinda early and don’t have to rush. Jianhui deposited his bag then we went to the toilet and there isn’t a queue. We got so much time that we went toilet 2 times.
Then we headed to our pen. Looks like a good weather day. My CEO, Patrick Lee is here for the flag off. And we were flagged off at 4.30am.
That was when I feel that something is not right with my left leg. Seems like I might have really pulled a hamstring or what yesterday kids dash. So it wasn’t a comfortable 10km run as what I wish for. My strategy for full marathon is always this - enjoy the first 10km, run slow for the next 10km and then push it till 30km and slowly run/walk for the last 12km+. I must say it was not a good 10km as I was using more of my right leg to run.
So I lasted till half marathon and I really feel like half dead. My heart feels weak. My legs start to cramp which is too early in the race. So I ate the high five gel jianhui gave me and drank a lot of 100+. I also had to resort to walk more. I was very disciplined as I would not allow myself to walk more than 100m and I would only stop when my legs start to cramp or at water points station. I also ate the gel they gave which wasn’t nice. I was able to see Jianhui at the ECP stretch.
At the end of ECP, it was about 28km. I must say this year’s route is very good for mental. I would have enjoyed the route more if not due to lack of training. Weather is good too with little sun. There’s popsicle also at aid station though I couldn’t enjoy it because of my braces. I used a lot of ice to cool myself down.
I don’t know how I push it through. At around 38km, Felicia told me that they were waiting for me at the finishing line. I tried my best to run as much as possible without cramping. And when I saw them at the finishing line cheering for me, I gave my all to run.
Didn’t mange to meet under 6hrs target, but I guess I am glad that I managed to complete it. My 11th SCSM and 14th full marathon. I went to staff lounge and then we took photos with my colleagues together.
After they left, I ate a bit while waiting for Jianhui. From staff lounge, it has a good view of the finishing line. A pity that I missed Jianhui while I was eating my otah. Ops.
Was really happy to see Jianhui completed his 21st SCSM. Happy to do this with him every year. We took photos and then we went plaza sing NKP for lunch. We took 190 home and concussed on the bus. Haha.
All in all, it was a good race and really happy to be able to compete it in one piece. Full marathon distance is no joke and I always respect it. Just hope that my legs won’t hurt too much tomorrow.
We slept at 9pm+. And it was a good sleep.
Update on Monday (post marathon): My legs don’t hurt that much and I can still walk normally. Yeah! And I even went to office!
